Mood Disorders

Getting a case of “the blues” is a normal part of life.  However frequently feeling like your mood changes outside the bounds of normal fluctuations between sadness to elation could be a sign of a mood disorder – AND PERSIST for an extended length of time. Examples include: clinical or major depression, dysthymia and bipolar disorder.  Top Symptoms are:

  • Persistent sad, anxious or “empty” mood
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities you once enjoyed
  • Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism, angst
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness,  helplessness
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Sudden or chronic weight loss or overeating and weight gain
  • Decreased energy, fatigue, feeling “slowed down”
  • Restlessness, irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions
  • Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as:  headaches, digestive disorders, constipation, and chronic pain
  • Thoughts of death or suicide
  • Abnormally elevated mood, hyperactivity
  • Severe insomnia, no apparent need for sleep
  • Grandiose notions, may be accompanied by delusions of grandeur

  • Racing thoughts, accelerated thinking
